BRIEF ABOUT JOGJA
The Special Region of Yogyakarta, simply Jogja, is one of the 33 provinces in Indonesia. The shape of the region is a sort of triangle with the mountain Merapi at the top on the North side and Indian Ocean as the foot stretched from east to west laid in the South side. Geographically, located in the center of Java Island, the region is a hub of Indonesian’s two most important international gateways, Jakarta and Bali. The city came into being in 1755, after the division Javanese Moslem empire of Mataram into Sunan of Surakarta (Solo) and the Sultan of Yogyakarta. Pangeran Mangkubumi, crowned Sultan Hamengku Buwono I was the first Sultan of Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat. He was also the founder of present line royal dynasty of Sultan of Yogyakarta who was been living in the Kingdom and playing essential role in Javanese culture. After the independence of Republic Indonesia was proclaimed in 1945, The Sultan Hamengku Buwono IX and Sri Pakualam VIII (the two royal regions in Jogja) also declared Yogyakarrta belonged to Republic Indonesia. In 1950, Yogyakarta was given the provincial status, The Special Region of Yogyakarta, as the recognition of her significant role in the fight for independence.

Jogja’s richness and ancient cultural tradition has made her the Indonesian’s second most popular tourist destination after Bali. Ones are attracted by the tradition way of life and the numerous sights in and around the city. Gamelan, classical and contemporary Javanese dances, the Wayang Kulit (Shadow puppet) theatre and other expressions of traditional art will keep the visitor spellbound. Local craftsmen excel in the arts of batiks, silver and leather work. Hotels, restaurant and other services have improved greatly recent days. As it is true charm, to hurry Jogja means to miss her essence.
